Bypass of capital city of Lithuania completed

2016-12-23 Vilnius, capital city of Lithuania (EU member) has completed its western bypass that will provide smooth transit traffic of goods and passengers as well as increase traffic flow. The bypass is integral part of international traffic corridor IXB, connecting Baltic sea with Black sea.

The III stage of bypass - 5,4 km long stretch of 6 lanes with 7 two-level junctions – was constructed by biggest infrastructure company in the Baltic region “Kauno tiltai”, owned by “Trakcja” a subsidiary of “Comsa Corporación”.

“It was largest road infrastructure project in Lithuania over recent years and on of most exciting and biggest projects in our company portfolio. We are glad to contribute to decent traffic infrastructure in one of EU capital cities”, – says Aldas Rusevicius, “Kauno tiltai” CEO.

The significance of the project was appraised by European Commission, which allocated 84M eur for the project from EU Cohesion funds. Total cost of the contract amounts to 89,6 M eur (VAT incl.).

The project was completed in 18 month – 3 month ahead of schedule. It‘s estimated benefits on average will exceed 9M eur a year, effectively saving 15M driving hours over period of 20 years.
